Microsoft Fargo hosts students

As part of the IT Career Awareness Program (ITCAP), more than 30 students from central North Dakota high schools toured Microsoft Fargo in December. Students were exposed to the types of jobs available, including IT, business and accounting. They also received information on the type of degrees needed and internship opportunities.

“The students were excited at the opportunity to tour a North Dakota IT company,” said Wade Kadrmas, ITCAP coordinator. “The tour opened their eyes to the job opportunities, provided information on what classes to pursue and most importantly got them excited about IT.”

If your company would be interested in hosting a tour for students, parents or educators, contact Kadrmas at 701-328-3178.

Future opportunities for Cross Products and the IT industry in the state: We hope to see more high tech manufacturing entrants in the state, including those that support "green" technologies.  Also, increased R&D ventures and joint ventures would present significant IT opportunities that would ripple throughout the state.

Current challenges facing Cross Products and the IT industry in the state: As software professionals, we find our lack of marketing resources and skills to be a significant challenge. We have also observed that to many businesses in the state the utilization of contract consultants is regarded as unviable in favor of full-time employees. Our biggest challenge is demonstrating to local businesses that contracted projects (hourly and/or fixed-price) are both a viable alternative and augmentation to traditional full-time human resources for well-defined IT projects of all levels of complexity.
